Hunting Methods
Most spring black bear hunts in Western Montana utilize spot-and-stalk techniques. Hunters use binoculars to scan open areas and ridgelines before planning a strategic approach. This physically demanding method requires preparedness for varying weather and rugged terrain, but it offers breathtaking scenery and a rewarding challenge.
Preparing for the Hunt
Black bear hunting in the Bitterroot Valley is a physically demanding yet deeply gratifying experience. Bears are often found in remote, hard-to-reach areas, so physical fitness is crucial. Hunters who embrace the challenge will be rewarded with stunning landscapes, memorable wildlife encounters, and the chance to take home a true Montana trophy.
Daily Hunting Schedule
To maximize success, our hunts focus on afternoons and evenings when bears are most active. Days can be long, and meals are adjusted to accommodate this schedule. We start the day with a hearty breakfast at 8 a.m., and hunters pack a lunch and a dehydrated meal for dinner. While we can provide traditional dinners, the flexibility of dehydrated meals is often the most practical option. If you have specific preferences, let us know, and we’ll work with you!
