Experience Montana’s Legendary Missouri River Breaks
The Missouri River Breaks is one of Montana’s most iconic hunting destinations, offering unparalleled opportunities for elk hunters. Renowned for its dramatic landscapes, abundant wildlife, and rich hunting history, the Breaks are a bucket-list destination for those seeking adventure and the bull of a lifetime.
Located in central Montana, the Missouri River Breaks is a rugged expanse of steep canyons, open prairies, and dense timberlands. This unique terrain provides ideal habitat for elk and supports one of the most robust herds in the state. Hunters are drawn to the area not only for its breathtaking beauty but also for its reputation as one of the premier elk hunting regions in the United States.
The Missouri River Breaks is famous for producing some of Montana’s largest bull elk. Mature bulls with impressive antler growth, often scoring 300 or higher, are commonly seen. Thanks to limited hunting pressure and excellent habitat, the elk in this region reach full maturity, giving hunters a realistic opportunity to harvest a true trophy.
The Missouri River Breaks has a storied history of hunting and conservation. Decades of careful wildlife management have ensured a thriving elk population, providing sustainable hunting opportunities for future generations. The region reflects the partnership between hunters, landowners, and wildlife agencies working together to preserve this remarkable ecosystem.
At Latitudes Montana Elk Co., archery elk hunting is our specialty. We lease over 50,000 acres of premier hunting land in Unit 410 of the renowned Missouri River Breaks. This archery-only area offers limited rifle permits, ensuring minimal hunting pressure. With a large resident elk herd, excellent bull-to-cow ratios, and consistently high success rates, this hunt is truly unforgettable.
We limit our camps to a maximum of four hunters per week to ensure the hunting grounds have adequate time to rest. Average bulls measure 300–330 inches, with some reaching 350–380+. Our experienced guides have extensive knowledge of the terrain and elk behavior, providing you with a distinct advantage.
Hunters stay in our comfortable guest cabin near Winnett, conveniently located close to our hunting properties. The surrounding terrain features rocky buttes, cottonwood draws, low hills, and open prairie, making this one of our most accessible camps.
We employ a variety of methods, including hunting waterholes, tracking travel patterns, spot-and-stalk, and calling during the rut. You’ll spend time scouting with binoculars and spotting scopes to find the perfect bull. This is a fully guided, 6-day private land hunt with a 1:1 or 2:1 hunter-to-guide ratio.

Latitudes Outfitting Co. offers premier access to over 1.5 million acres in the Bitterroot National Forest, providing exceptional hunting opportunities for elk, deer, and other big game animals. Our region encompasses seven hunting districts: units 204, 240, 250, 260, 261, 262, and 270. The diverse terrain includes open ridges, timbered draws, and old burns—some of the best elk habitats on Montana’s western side. These landscapes allow for excellent glassing and spot-and-stalk hunting, ensuring an authentic, fair-chase experience.
Thanks to predator management and plentiful feed, elk populations have rebounded significantly over the last decade. The forest is also home to thriving populations of mule deer and whitetail deer, with impressive bucks harvested annually—particularly during the rut, when mature bucks are most active.
Our mule deer area recently changed from a permit area to a general area. This means the first year or two of this hunt should produce some outstanding bucks that have received relatively little hunting pressure for the last 20 years.
We can combine mule deer on hunts offered through November 13, after the 13th we will focus on whitetail bucks!
All hunters must apply for the big game combo licenses.
Guided clients are eligible to purchase an additional preference point when applying, this should increase odds of drawing the big game combo license dramatically.
